Song: Those Were The Days
Artist: Mary Hopkin
Last evening...
my younger sister, my mother, and I
went to the Atlantis for sushi.
My mother always loves sushi.
After eating our fill...
I took my mother back home.
Just today, in the early evening...
I took my elder sister and my mother out to shoot our slingshots.
My mother had never shot one before...
so, I showed her how to use one.
I had bought some hardened clay 3/8 inch shot to practice with...
and we set up a cardboard box as a target.
This was just up the street from my mother's house.
My elder sister had her own slingshot.
Actually, the tubular bands she is using are too hard to pull back all the way.
She will be buying some tapered bands for her slingshot.
I showed my mother how to use my slingshot.
I fired off some shot...
and then had her try.
Every so often...
I would take shots at the box to point out how to hold and release the shot.
My elder sister did pretty well after some practice.
"Dekinai"
Although she never hit the box...
my mother had fun trying.
She will get the hang of it.
I will take her out more to shoot for distance at one of the reservoirs.
The skies are filled with smoke from the many wildfires in California...
however...
it is no reason to skip the great outdoors.
The next few photos show the sun
to demonstrate how smokey the air is.
Bandi loves going out...
for whatever reason.
There was one jogger who passed by...
so we waited for her to get out of range before we
started plinking again.
My mother has to realize that the back hand must be in alignment with
the front hand...
and all must be pointing at the target.
However, this was just familiarization with the mechanics of shooting.
So, she actually did far better than I thought she would have.
These are the exit holes from our plinking.
My mother will enjoy it more once she gets the hang of plinking.
But, it was a good day for all of us.
I remember back in the 1960s...
I always carried around a slingshot to plink in the fields and the river
near where we lived.
Could your mother even see the target? It looks far! You guys are good shots.
ReplyDeleteShe did fairly well. She had fun with us on that day. I am trying to get her out more, to at least walk around. When combined with something fun, she usually readily agrees.
