My Mother's Eldest Grandson Visits

Song:  The Glass Hall

Artist:  Andreas Vollenweider

My eldest nephew is visiting my mother for a week.

He will be leaving in a couple of days.

He lives in North Carolina...
so, it was a special treat to see him...
as it has been a while since my mother had last seen him.

I was waiting to pick up Alex from UNR.

I would then pick up my nephew at the airport a few hours later.

I picked him up at the airport...
and drove him to my mother's house.

He is staying with her for his week long visit.

My mother was glad to see him.

I taught my nephew how to make salmon ochazuke.

We each ate a large bowl...
and I then left him to go to bed...
as his home time zone is three hours ahead of ours.

The next day...
after I dropped off Alex at Mountain College for a class...
I took my nephew and my mother to Pyramid Lake.

We then drove back to Mountain College to pick up Alex...
and I dropped him off at home so he could study some more.

We then proceeded to the Atlantis Casino for some sushi.

This was just the first of many plates of various sushi we enjoyed.

I then took them back to my mother's house for the evening.

For the next day's supper...
we went to Ijji 4 for Korean Barbecue.

We ate our fill...
and I took them back to my mother's house.

On the next day...
I had wanted to take them to Stampede Reservoir.

However, the road was under construction...
so, we just stopped by Boca Reservoir for some pictures.

I then took them to Donner Lake.

At the lookout point above Donner Lake...
my mother is still afraid of heights...
and so, she clinged to the stone pillar  :)

After our outing...
we then went to Famous Dave's Barbecue.

We had a large platter of Barbecue ribs, chicken, and pulled pork.

On the next day...
I drove them to an outing to Mammoth Mountain and through the June Lake Loop.

We are about halfway there in this picture.

This was a lookout above Mono Lake.

Of all the years we had gone to Mammoth Mountain in Winter, Summer, and Autumn...
it was closed all this Summer and part of Autumn for renovation.

I had wanted to take him to the top on a gondola to see the spectacular views
at over 11,000 feet...but it was not to be.

So, we then drove to June Lake Loop.

This was at a rest stop just shy of June Lake Loop...
for a quick bathroom break.

This is near the southern entrance of June Lake loop
(at June Lake).

My nephew and I at June Lake.
I have my Winter beard growing  :)

What good is a mountain man...
without a beard for Winter?  :)

We then stopped at Silver Lake on the June Lake Loop.

We were early in the season for full fall colors.

The trees were just turning yellow on this trip.

After we arrived back home...
we rested for a few hours...
and we then went back to the Atlantis Casino...
but this time...
we ate at the Oyster Bar restaurant.

We shared a plate of seafood fettuccini ...
and a seafood platter of lobster, shrimp, crab, and fried oysters.

We departed...
and we all then got some rest.

My nephew's mother (my younger sister)...
arrived at my mother's house shortly after we started this supper.

Early the next morning...
Alex took his advanced Physics exam
(he is at the exam now)...
and we will then go to California to a seminar.

My mother, her grandson, and youngest daughter will spend the day at her house...
and when I return in the evening...
we will go out to eat supper...
most probably at our favorite Thai restaurant.

Tomorrow...
we will go to Lake Tahoe...
and to the observation platform above it...
and we will then go out for a Prime Rib supper.

I will then be taking my nephew to the airport for his early morning flight back home.

I will have pictures of his last couple of days here in my next article.
